Entel and Movistar (Telefonica) topped Peru’s 4G speed ranking in the latest mobile network report published by OpenSignal, reports Telecompaper on August 10, 2017. The operators were neck and neck in the 4G speed measurements with users experiencing between 21 Mbps and 22 Mbps downloads, well above the global LTE average of 16.2 Mbps.
However, Entel was the clear winner in three of the other rankings, posting the best 4G availability, 3G download speed and 4G latency. In fact, Entel users were able to latch onto its LTE almost 80 percent of the time compared to a Bitel LTE signal 74.5 percent of the time, a Movistar one 71 percent of the time and a Claro one 67.5 percent of the time. The final ranking for 4G latency saw Entel far ahead of its rivals with an average latency of 37 milliseconds, compared to Claro’s 45.5 Bitel’s 49 and Movistar’s 54.5.
OpenSignal took nearly million measurements collected by 31,577 from 9,237 smartphone users between April and June 2017. The company previously revealed that Peru as a whole stacks up well against its Latin American neighbours, scoring 67 percent in 4G availability and averaging 4G speeds of 21 Mbps, putting it ahead of countries like Argentina, Brazil, Chile and Colombia in both categories.
