US-based MVNO FreedomPop has teamed up with MasMovil to offer its customers 4G services via the Yoigo network, reports Telecompaper on August 9, 2017, citing Xataka Movil. All new subscribers acquiring a FreedomPop SIM card for EUR 4.99 will be able to access 4G, while existing users will have to specifically request migration from 3G, said the report. Under the terms of the deal, FreedomPop users will be connected to Yoigo’s network as a priority and to Orange Spain’s network as a fallback in all other areas.
FreedomPop launched its service in Spain a year ago with a basic free plan that includes 100 minutes of calls, 200MB of data, 300 SMS and unlimited WhatsApp use. However, the new SIM no longer comes with data-free WhatsApp use or international roaming, said the report. The company’s four other ’premium’ plans range from 1GB of data, 200 minutes of calls and 500 SMS for EUR 4.99 a month to 10GB of data plus unlimited calls and SMS for EUR 28.99 a month.
