Telkom Kenya has taken its 4G services to 19 new towns as it looks to grow data clients in line with its new corporate strategy, reports Business Daily on June 17, 2017.
The firm said in a statement yesterday that customers in Diani, Naivasha, Thika, Narok, Bungoma, Kakamega and Kitale will now have access to its high-speed Internet services.
It rebranded last week, dropping the Orange name and colours. At the time, it also announced that it was launching 4G services in nine towns, becoming the second Kenyan telecom to do so.
This latest announcement brings to 28 the number of towns where the company’s 4G services are available.
"In this competitive digital era, Kenyans need a choice of data provider," said Telkom chief executive officer, Mr Aldo Mareuse.
Telkom’s rebrand was in line with an agreement signed after private equity firm Helios took over majority stake in June last year.
In the one year since, Telkom says that it has invested at least Sh5 billion in its infrastructure. The company is now ready to woo customers and is betting heavily on data. Apart from free 4G services, Telkom last week told customers that they could enjoy free WhatsApp services.
